Does God allow afflictions in the lives of His dear children?
Here are some pithy snippets from the writings of John Mason….
1. Afflictions are not so much threatened as promised, to the children of God.
2. By affliction God separates the sin which He hates, from the soul which He loves.
3. Sin is the poison – and affliction is the medicine.
4. Though the hand of God may be against you; yet the heart of God may be towards you.
5. What is bearing a temporal cross, compared to the wearing an eternal crown?
(From the writings of John Mason who died in 1694. He was a man of God who wrote with a spiritual depth that was unusual and uncanny. His friend Baxter described him this way: “The frame of his spirit was so heavenly, his deportment so humble and obliging, his discourse of spiritual things so weighty, with such apt words and delightful air, that it charmed all that had any spiritual relish“. Could this be said of us?)
