The DNA of the devil…..
Have you ever wondered what is the purpose of the devil? What does he exist for? What fills the devil with joy and delight?
The encounter Jesus had with the boy possessed by a demon in Luke 9:39 gives us some answers.
In this verse, we can see the destructive power of the evil one.
In verse 39, the father described his only son’s ordeal by explaining how the devil “throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him”.
From this passage it very clear, that the devil exists to wreck as much carnage, damage and destruction on those he is able to possess.
That is why Jesus described in the DNA of the devil as someone who exists to “kill, steal and destroy”. (John 10:10)
The devil’s deepest fulfillment happens when he can somehow slaughter, injure, maim, defraud, deceive, delude, con, confuse, mutilate or if possible destroy and exterminate a person.
We see this play out right from the Garden of Eden. When he seduced Eve to sin against God by urging her to eat the forbidden fruit.
We see this when Haman set out to destroy and annihilate the Jews in the book of Esther.
Haman’s devil-inspired determination to exterminate God’s chosen people was another manifest expression of the diabolic powers at work.
We see the demonic powers at play again when Herod set out to kill every single child in Bethlehem when the Wise Men from the east (said that they saw His star and came to worship the new-born “King of the Jews”).
While we may never know why the Lord allowed the devil access to Adam and Eve in the garden or why he still still freely roams the earth, Jesus reminds us the devil is a fallen enemy – a defeated foe.
Jesus conquered the devil through his death and resurrection. That is why no believer ever needs to fear the devil.
On the other hand, in Jesus name and through His shed blood, each of us can exercise His power and authority over every demonic force that exists in the world.
Have you like Eve succumbed to the whispers of the devil or have you like Esther, fought against and overcome the wicked one?
