Why would anyone be ashamed of Jesus and His words?

Why would anyone be ashamed of Jesus and His words?

In Luke 9:26 Jesus said, “Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels”

So why would anyone be ashamed of Jesus and His words?

If our faith is external or simply cultural, it is highly likely that we will deny Jesus.

Whenever an individual does not have a deep and intimate encounter with the Lord, he or she is more prone to deny Him whenever their circumstances turn out to be difficult or harsh.

On the other hand we see Paul stand before rulers like King Agrippa and Festus, and unashamedly share his faith. Paul declared “King Agrippa I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision” (Acts 26:19). How could he deny something he had authentically encountered?

Also when Peter in his fleshly zeal declared that he would never deny Jesus, the Lord revealed to him that within 24 hours he would deny Him thrice! Which indeed came to pass.

From this we see, that the best of us can be ashamed of Jesus and His words and deny Him, if we have not had a real encounter the Living God!

Or if our faith was simply human bravado, it would be similar to Peter’s declaration that he would never deny Him.

Have you encountered Jesus in a real and meaningful way?

Otherwise you may be ashamed of Him, sooner or later!

Thank you Numi. It was so edifying and convicting. The Lord bless you as you minister in different ways. Its not a me centered insight and sharing of the word. We need to know more about Him and His character…..rather than all this me centered faith.
