Can you trust Jesus more than you can trust yourself?

Can you trust Jesus more than you can trust yourself?

Dietrich Bonhoeffer the German theologian, who was a prophetic voice during Hitler’s reign, once said “When Christ call a man, he bids him to come and die”.

In Luke 9:23, Jesus lays out the condition for those who would follow Him.

He said the person must be willing to…

1) deny himself (in Greek ap-ar-neh’-om-ahee, which means to renounce and disown oneself and have no compulsive self-interest),

2) take up his cross, which could mean being willing to bear shame and rejection, that otherwise one would not suffer,

3) and to follow Him, which is to live, speak and be like Jesus in all that one does.

Why would Jesus make such an audacious demand of those who would be His disciples?

Because those who were willing to abandon all and follow Him, always were the richer for it!

Both in this world – and the world to come!

A Moses, a David a Paul, and others in the Bible are examples of how they blessed the world they lived in – and lived spiritually rich and soul-full lives.

So, are you willing to answer Jesus’ call to “come and die”?

The rewards are for this life – and beyond!
