Spiritual bonds versus Filial bonds…..

In Luke 8:20, we see how Jesus pointedly clarifies that “spiritual bonds transcend filial bonds”.

While on one hand “honoring one’s father and mother” is explicitly commanded, on the other hand, a disciple of Jesus cannot “love father, mother, wife or brothers or sister more than Him”.

Abraham proved this point when he unquestioningly took Isaac to be sacrificed on the alter in obedience to what God asked him to do – no questions asked!

And Jesus also confirmed in Luke 8:21 that ONLY those who “hear the word of God, and do it” qualify to be His brothers and sisters.

There is bond closer and stronger than filial bonds between those who love the Lord with all their hearts and want to to do His will, no matter what! And what an unshakable bond that is indeed!

We can also see how a God-fearing Jonathan, loved David despite his father Saul’s hostility towards David.

A classic case of “spiritual bonds” trumping “filial bonds”!!
