Are you willing to pay the price for a spiritual breakthrough?

In the ministry of Jesus, whenever he cast out a demon, the demon left the person without having to enter into another person or animal.

But in Luke 8: 32 (and only in this one case), we see how the demons asked permission to go into the swine who were feeding in the area. And Jesus granted them permission!

While we may not know why exactly Jesus made an exception in this case, we can see it cost the community a lot of money. Mark in chapter 5:13, says the number of swine was about two thousand of them.

A simple math will reveal the economic cost of those 2000 swine which perished was upwards of a million dollars. (2000 swine @ $500 each = 1 million!).

But the people of Decapolis were not willing to pay that price. They would rather have the demon-possessed man remain that way than see this amazing spiritual breakthrough.

Often in our own lives, we may have to pay an economic or relational or physical cost, if we are keen on a spiritual breakthrough.

Jacob wrestled and prevailed over the angel of God but he walked with a limp for the rest of his life because the angel “struck Jacob’s hip socket at the thigh muscle” (Gen 32:32) when Jacob would not let the angel go, till He blessed Jacob!

He was willing to pay the price to secure the blessing – and Jacob’s life was never the same again.

Are you willing to pay the price the Lord may require of you, whenever you are diligently seeking a spiritual breakthrough?
