Is the word of the Lord in your mouth truth or are they mere platitudes?
1Ki 17:24 – Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.”
In this passage we see even though the widow obeyed Elijah and experienced God’s miraculous provision during a time of severe famine, she recognized Elijah’s spiritual standing only after Elijah brought back her dead son to life.
Only when God demonstrates His definitive power through us, will the world sit up and take notice. The widow knew that Elijah was a godly man when he sojourned with her.
But she recognized Elijah as a man of God only after she saw the impossible happen, when Elijah brought her dead son back to life.
The widow recognized that Elijah’s mouth was indeed a repository of truth. His words were no platitudes.
Elijah spoke as an oracle of God – and when God’s oracles speak, the word in their mouth is truth!
Do we speak as God’s oracle? Is the word of God in our mouth truth?
