Love is seen in what it does.
Gladys Aylward* (1902-1970)
Missionary to China/Bible Teacher
* Gladys Aylward was an English parlormaid who went to China as a missionary and was successful in running an orphanage and also in helping the Chinese government deal with the social issue of foot-binding. She was turned down by the China Inland Missions as a missionary candidate because her academic background was inadequate. Nevertheless she was determined to get to China – and set out with her passport, her Bible and two pounds and ninepence to travel to China. She took the train to Vladivostok in Russia, then sailed from there to Japan and then to China where she went on a mule to the inland city of Yangchen. Her story was made into a movie called the Inn of the Sixth Happiness – a tribute to the small woman who could stand up to a Chinese Mandarin, look him in the eye and talk to him without fear or favor whatsoever!
My apologies that these Think It Overs were not consistently posted this week. Work with my friend David Helmer in Indianapolis, IN, has been very stimulating, nourishing and fulfilling – but the long hours 8 am to 10 pm did’nt leave much time to get these out! I am sorry!! – John B. Samuel
