While serving in India, Amy Carmichael 1 received a letter from a young lady who was considering life as a missionary. She asked
Amy "What is missionary life like?"
Amy wrote back a brief note saying " Missionary life is simply a chance to die"
Are you willing to die for His kingdom sake?
1 Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) was an English missionary to India who pioneered work among the children of temple prostitutes and saved them from a life of wretched living. She was sickly person much of her adult life but yet persevered to take care of more than a thousand children. Dressed in a Indian sari and with her brown eyes, she blended into the milieu of the Indian subcontinent – and was a force to reckon with amongst the caste-proud Hindu’s who resisted her social and spiritual interventions.
