Prayer has many facets and benefits. Prayer is likened to a spiritual "circuit breaker" to help us avert crisis and warn us that things are about to get out of control. Prayer reveals the will of God to us–the very thing we each want; prayer protects loved ones; prayer heals the sick and refreshes the mind. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (James 5:16).
Prayer quiets the soul. The Lord is found in a "still small voice." The whisper of the Holy Spirit will not be heard above the cacophony of worldly sounds. The Holy Spirit will not raise His voice to compete with TV, radio, cell phones, horns, people talking, or customers calling. Instead, we must still ourselves to hear His voice. The Spirit’s whisper is a loud, loud voice to the man who has stilled his soul.
